AAMFT Membership
The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, AAMFT, is one of the professional organizations for the Marriage and Family Therapy Field. AAMFT represents the interests of MFTs in the United States, Canada, and internationally.

- Network with over 25,000 therapists
- Join advocacy efforts on the federal and state level
AAMFT offers two different types of membership for therapists with varying levels of experience:
- Professional Membership
- Fully licensed or practicing independently as a systemic family therapist of MFT or related field or
- Have graduated with a degree that allows you to work on requirements towards full licensure or independent MFT practice or related field or
- Meets the basic requirements to pursue the Clinical Fellow designation
- $219 for US and Canada applicants
- $169 for outside US and Canada
- $146 for recently graduated working towards licensure or independent practice (Valid for 2 year after graduation)
- $90 for doctoral students (Valid for 4 years after graduation)
- Student Membership
- Student currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution for bachelor's or master's degree in a Marriage and Family Therapy or related mental health field.
- $90 for US and International

AAMFT also offers pre-clinical and clinical levels for members.
- According to their application, pre-clinical members have completed a master's or doctoral program in a Marriage and Family Therapy program, or related field, are are in the process of accruing their post graduate supervision hours towards licensure.
- To become a pre-clinical fellow, submit the 2020 AAMFT Pre-Clinical Fellow Licensure Track Application
- Clinical Fellows possess the highest license as an MFT granted by AAMFT. They are approved as having met the highest standards of AAMFT. There are several requirements to becoming a clinical fellow:
- Designation must be renewed every 2 years with submission of 20 hours of continuing education, 3 hours of professional ethics. and 1 hour of cultural competence courses.

- Complete the Evaluative Clinical Fellow Application
